The city traces its founding to the fortress of Erebuni in 782 BCE, making it older than Rome.

These intricately carved stone crosses have been made since the early Middle Ages. UNESCO inscribed the craft in 2010.

The mountain dominates the skyline of Yerevan and appears on Armenia's coat of arms, although it sits just across the modern border.

UNESCO recognized the making of lavash in 2014. The thin bread is traditionally baked on the wall of a clay oven called a tonir.
