Bhutan Transitioned to a Constitutional Monarchy by Royal Decree
The Fourth King, Jigme Singye Wangchuck, initiated the transition from absolute monarchy to a democratic constitutional monarchy in 2008. He voluntarily relinquished much of his power for the long-term benefit of his people.
