Bombardier Beetles Shoot Boiling Hot Chemical Spray
When threatened, these beetles mix two chemicals, hydroquinone and hydrogen peroxide, in a special combustion chamber in their abdomen. The resulting exothermic reaction produces a scalding, foul-smelling spray that deters predators with remarkable force.
