Barbados Became a Parliamentary Republic in 2021
On November 30, 2021, the 55th anniversary of its independence, Barbados transitioned from a constitutional monarchy with Queen Elizabeth II as its head of state to a republic. This significant step in its decolonization process saw Dame Sandra Mason become the island's first president.
