Native Monégasques Are a Minority in Their Own Country

Only about 21% of Monaco's residents hold Monégasque citizenship, making locals a minority in their own principality. The majority are French nationals, with the rest coming from over 130 other countries. Citizenship is extremely difficult to obtain and is passed primarily through the paternal line.
