The Little Mermaid Statue in Copenhagen Was Unveiled in 1913

Opened in 2000, the combined bridge and tunnel is about 16 kilometers long and carries both cars and trains between Copenhagen and Malmö.

The concept covers candlelight, warm drinks and time with friends, and has become a symbol of Danish everyday life.

Both territories run most of their own affairs, though Denmark handles areas such as defense and foreign policy.

The Danish royal line is traced back more than a thousand years, to kings such as Gorm the Old in the 10th century.
